Instagram Story Ideas to Promote Your Experiences

Last Updated August 23, 2018

Any millennial will tell you it’s easy to get lost down an Instagram story hole, taken away on fun mini-adventures in 15 seconds or less. Sometimes, 36-year-old communication directors will also tell you the same information, but that’s neither here nor there. The point is, with a little creativity, you and your team can use an Instagram story to promote your experiences.

Instagram Story Takeover Time!

We’ve become big fans of the Instagram Takeover, welcoming our staff to log in to our official account and share their point of view. Remember, have a social media policy in place before handing over passwords.

On tours and activities, guides are uniquely positioned to provide a mini version of their experience in 15-second snippets. Showcasing happy guests and shareable moments can really drive fans back to your box office. Events and festivals can hand over the reigns to speakers or talent to see their preparation.

Question and Answer

This one taps into one of the newest features launched by the Facebook-owned network, allowing a badge that invites your audience to ask you questions. Followers will enjoy the opportunity to reach out and participate in your content, ensuring a return visit to your stories to see if you’ll answer their question!

If you have a popular guide who stars in your content a lot or an exciting speaker at an event, you’re sure to find plenty of questions among your followers.

Remember to check back on the questions as they come in and use them to create more content. Incentivize with promo codes or prizes to really drive responses.

Go Behind the Scenes

Your followers can feel like they’ve got an all-access pass when you show them parts of your experiences they’d never get to see any other way.

Event setup is a great time to peek behind the curtain and preview what’s to come. For tours and activities, your vendors may enjoy a little extra promotion during a slower part of the day. Hop into the kitchen and prepare a signature recipe, or share a soundcheck from a band at a live music event.

These are experiences exclusive to your followers, which they cannot get anywhere else.

Share Guest Content

It’s easier than ever to share content created by your followers. Be sure to have your own hashtag (and promote it), monitor mentions of your brand, and then share away!

Engaging with your followers builds incredible loyalty and encourages others to join in on the fun. Here’s a video showing how to create stories out of the stories you’ve been tagged in.

Time for you to get out there and start creating great Instagram Story content.

Comment time! If you’re new to stories, tell us what you’re planning to post next.  For seasoned pros, what made your most successful post such a hit?
